For Sale - 2014 1190 RX - does not run

I am considering selling my RX.

It does not run. (turns on no problem)
The clutch case cracked open during a ride a year ago, just about a month after I was laid-off from my job (and struggled to find a new full-time for quite some time)... So it has been stored in the garage since, filled up gas and added sta-bil so it doesn't turn to sludge and plugged on the battery tender, before I would eventually be able to spend the time and money on it. While some things are going better now, I still cannot justify spending the money on the EBR. Living and renting in the SF bay area is also making things very challenging for owning motorcycles.

I have not taken the bike apart to identify the exact point of failure and what parts need to be replaced. As some of you know, the frame needs to move out of the way for the inner clutch cover to come off so one could see what happened in there. I have not had a chance to do this procedure. However, I have removed the outer clutch cover and discovered that the clutch basket nut was loose... It came off by hand (I don't have 180Nm of torque between my thumb and index... So that's probably a good clue as to what went wrong).

Other than this issue the bike is in great shape. Everything else is in good shape and maintenance up to date.

I am still very much on the fence about letting it go. If anyone is interested lmk and make me an offer.

I had that happen to mine. The loose clutch hub nut made one of the bolts shear off and blast through that inner clutch cover faster than Mavrick flys a jet plane, necessitating a frame removal and complicated by the fact that the water pump is included in that assembly, NOS ones are so old now the seals dry up, AND it takes a specialty tool to install that I had to buy. Ugh. Pain in the BUTT!

Very much like this on an 1125.
    Haha

I feel for you bro, we know they ain't worth much not running, and it's a big deal to fix. I'm south of you by LAX if I can do anything to help, lemme know.

My initial post was in a bit of haste. I've decided I'm keeping the RX. I will be working on it soon.
Are there any threads covering the inner clutch cover blow-up issue that show some pictures of the water pump assembly you're referring to?

There is no 'inner clutch cover blow up issue'. More people die from vending machines every year. And the clutch hub nut being loose is different than the assembly bolt to the starter gear shearing in half. You could be done in a weekend with basic tools, Time to rock and get her back on the road!

The inner cover does require the frame split in order to remove the rear head pipe and access that cover, but... if you flange the rear head pipe you'll not have to do it again.

I can't step-by-step it for you here, but luckily theres plenty of resources (including the service manual videos posted on YouTube) to help you. Remove it, replace it. Then ride. Win!!
The water pump assembly is all inclusive in that cover, I'm just telling you to be aware that a NOS inner clutch cover from LAP (The "New Buell") is still possibly 10 years old now, so replacing the seals is a prudent thing to do, especially when the cover is that hard to access. I didn't. I regretted it. And had to do it again

I would highly recommend Chaz at Aagard Moto Foundry for both the parts and seal service.

Thanks, it makes sense now about replacing the seals due to age concerns. Good advice.
Thanks for the recommendation as well, I've bought parts from there, didn't know they serviced parts.

I don't know yet what really went on, so I don't know what parts to order yet (other than the inner clutch cover that is obviously broken). So one weekend is probably going to be just tear down, inspection and order parts. Then once parts arrive another day or weekend for re-assembly

You're also going to want to inspect the engine case half very, very well. If it was indeed the inner clutch hub nut that came loose, you're probably ok. It's big enough that it doesn't really have a way to bang around and hit the case. If it was one of the 3 mounting bolts behind the clutch hub, they can rattle around and crack it at the inner clutch cover flange:(

    Fingers crossed.

1125 parts will interchange (Rev B only) but will be a slightly different color. If you want to save some $$, I have all of it (used). Otherwise Chaz can get what you need.

To precise, the clutch nut was loose but still on the shaft, just not torqued to spec.

Thanks for sharing this info about the 1125
