Fairing/airbox plastics - Colored plastic or painted?

Just received a red one this week (#288), and the body panels appear to be red plastic, and not painted. I may be a bit late asking this question so if this subject has been covered already, my apologies. Input from Ed at AF1 would be great.

I ask because I want to be sure as to how to treat the surface in removing scratches. Yes I have read the owner's manual, and know that it says not to use machine polishers.

    Thanks,
    Brian

They are a colored plastic base with a thin acrylic top coat.
You can and should treat it like paint when buffing. It will respond as you would expect paint to with typical buffing and polishing compounds.

Thank you. Top coat is acrylic color, or acrylic clear?

    That's a good question...I'm not 100% positive.

No worries. I suppose I will find out when I attempt scratch correction...

    NOT true -
The bronze RX (not black !) plastics are painted. Thought the front fender IS made of black plastic.

quick check. Take your airbox cover off and look at the other side. perhaps try some of your products on that side first to make sure there wont be any terrible effects? just a thought

I have already done some polishing by hand. I used Adams machine swirl remover, and followed with Adams machine polish using a microfiber towel soaked with Adams quick detailer. Results were excellent. The plastic is really soft, so I would not take a machine polisher to it.
