Potential 1190 Purchase - Overheated Looking for info

Im looking at a 1190 the owner says his mechanic put the wrong oil in the bike and it overheated causing a gasket leak at the case. The owner states the bike still runs and he shut it down as soon as the warning came on and it will still start and run but leaks oil.

Has anyone heard anything like this/ should I be worried about the bike?

Wha? Don't be worried about the bike, be worried about that hack mechanic.

NONE of that makes sense from a mechanics standpoint. Where, exactly, is it leaking "at the case"? Valve cover? Base of the cylinders? Oil filter cover? Breather fitting? Is there a puddle on the ground? Your clear answer could mean it's a great deal or walk away.

    1) "Wrong oil"? Like what? 15w-40 Diesel oil? 0w-10? Marvel mystery oil? Wrong oil won't make an engine overheat (but can cause other issues if ran over TIME).
    2) Wrong oil won't cause a gasket to leak. Super thin oil might creep past a gasket, but once the right weight is replaced, the leak would stop.
    3) A temp warning light does not equal catastrophic damage. Thats why it is a "warning" light to tell him to shut it off when safe to do so, and it sounds like he did that.
There are many safeties built in to save the engine even if it is continued to run in that state.

    Post pics of the leak
Find out why it's overheating. It could be a fan fuse or something simple, but it's not oil type.
And know that this isn't an EBR 1190 specific question. Any half-decent mechanic should look at the bike and find the answer quickly.

Honestly, I have found EBR's to be very hearty, strong, and dependable bikes, even when abused (like I do to mine, LOL).

Its all very strange to me too... Ive had a 1125CR and loved that bike (wish I hadnt sold it) I plan to go look at the bike in person as the guys been difficult to talk with over the phone and messaging.

Is this the same "cooter" from the buellxb forum?

If you don't like what you see with the EBR, I have a '09 CR for sale

Yup, same a-hole. It's lonely here, I think I'm the only one who check it and still refuse to Meta my way to FB:(

No FB for me either, I check here every couple days or so. I'd post something but I got nothing going on - well, unless you want to hear about the '75 Goldwing restoration :)

    Hell yes I would!
I followed a beautiful early 80's one for a long way (between San Fransisco and here on the 101) just yesterday! Just him on the bike. No trailer, no ol' lady. Heaven;)
