    Question Battery For a 2012 Buell 1190 RS ?

Has a very small Shorai Lithium battery with a port type plug.

Anybody know where I can get one.

The Shorai site didn't show the 2012 1190 RS as a selection.

    Thanks, Chris in San Diego. ( # 26 )

You should be able to search for a battery by physical size and terminal locatiocome , be aware they can be backwards.

I would actually give Shorai a call and speak with them, regardless of what the website says. They are EBR, Buell fans and may have a solution for you. Please post up if they do!

Though it will work at full capacity, Shorai won't recommend their most powerful unit small enough to fit because it has 210 cranking amps, and recommended their unit with 285 at a minimum (which is too tall). Speedcell can replace the cells in your stock battery or build you a shrink wrapped unit with wire leads and ring terminals. From my understanding these (and stock) are around 240 cranking amps. I have been running a shrink wrapped wire lead unit with no problems even after the fans running and fuel recirculating on a hot day. I plan on sending them my stock case soon for new cells because I'd rather have stock fitment. The owner of Speedcell was very helpful when I spoke with him.

No problem. For any route I'd recommend a lithium specific charger so it sees precisely when the battery approaches full charge to then gradually reduce current to prevent the leading cells in the series from ever over charging. The C-Tek lithium US works great.

The balancing boards in the stock battery were installed primarily because lithium chargers were rare and expensive at the time, so owners could get away with using a traditional charger without causing damage as each board bleeds off excess voltage through an LED. The boards need power to work though, so too long without a tender and they will drain and ruin the battery.

Balancing boards do maximize cell longevity when maintained, this is logical and proven, however, I am not one for leaving batteries charging all winter. I was planning on having boards in my (first) new battery until Speedcell told me basically what I wrote above and that I will be okay without them if I use a lithium charger and the bike doesn't ever continuously make over 15 volts. (right so far)

When I send them my stock case for new cells, it will be just cells like what I have been running. Though if someone so desires, they can transfer your boards at no charge.

When my Shorai started showing issues, I grabbed a Scorpion. Only used it a couple times before COVID and the tear-down, but it performed amazing.

I'm not using the Shorai charger on the Scorpion, I did buy another lithium charger.

Nice to know that's an option for RX/SX, but unfortunately that is too large to fit an RS :)

Doesn't. Uses eight A123 26650 lithium ion cells in EBR's own case.
