2014 RX Down, Bad rear wheel???

Well my EBR experience has turned into a short one. Yesterday on my way home going around a bend the bike slid out from under me with no idea what happened, all I remember thinking is why am I sliding on pavement. Upon examining the the bike the rear wheel was completely mangled, only thing I can think is the wheel somehow shattered while in that turn (the wheel not the tire), a turn that I've taken many times before. I walked away from with only some minor road rash on my hip, I cannot stress enough how important it is to wear protective gear when riding, it's saved my ass twice now. No idea what will be happening to the bike as of yet. But for now the ol buell XB will be coming back out.

Has anyone else had a issue with the rear wheel or did I possibly just get lucky to get a bad one?

    Maybe sand on road surface?
Why chain come dawn from sprocket? It shouldn't be. Even after fall.

There was no sand on the road. And I don't feel I was leaned in far enough for it to low side. And I've never seen a relatively slow low side damage a wheel so much. Only thing I can think is it was a defect in the wheel that finally caused a fracture and the wheel to break. I'm also assuming the tire then caused the chain to dislodge.
I love my Buell and up to this point anyways I loved my EBR. I'm not saying anything bad about EBR, I just feel I possibly got a defective wheel.

Maybe this pics show the rim damage better. I haven't pulled the wheel off yet cause I'm waiting to see what my insurance company comes back with.
