If everything will be normal, then most likely the case in the clutch hydraulic line.

If he could switch gears without the clutch like you suggest, he could still switch gears with the clutch in... even if the clutch cylinder was bad or there was something wrong with the hydraulic line.

I am unable to shift gears even with pulling in the clutch. Also, the bike has never been dropped as far as I know. I bought the bike with 78 miles on it and have never dropped it myself.

Unfortunately it sounds like you're going to have to take the motor out of the frame and tear into it to fix the problem.
