...just curious...I have seen other threads about this mod... What does this solenoid do, and (besides weight saving) how does the removal of it benefit you...?

This solenoid was put on there as a noise control measure to pass noise emissions standards. The solenoid pulls the throttle closed at some predetermined point to pass the test. The unit is removed so it doesn't close the throttle down on someone at a bad time, like when leaned over on a curve.

My understanding is that removing it keeps the bike from doing a shut down at approximately 5800 rpm in third gear at WFO. Apparently, Erik knows where the EPA has put the noise level mike...LOL...

Weird...from the pictures it looked like a "high-idle" solenoid like ambulance and firetrucks have...sounds like it does the opposite...!

I strongly recommend NOT having a FINGER TIGHT bolt anywhere in the air box.

I'm with you there. I didn't have any zip ties with me when I did the denoid, but before it gets fired up, I will be adding a zip tie to the electrical connector and then fully tightening the bolt all the way. I just didn't want to overdo it and pinch through the wiring.
