    Melted battery

Literately...it's got somewhat, bad smelling "stuff" running out of it..!

Well, seems my bike killed my $190 battery on the way home from work today.
The engine sputtered to a stop, I was going fast (maybe 45mph) enough to cross the freeway (rush-hour traffic) to the shoulder.
Because I had no electrical power, I removed the seat to find a smelly, hot battery.

Finally made it home on the back of a wrecker. The battery showed 6.1 volts ! I had a spare (long story), plugged it in, cringed and hit the starter button, everything still works, seems...nuthin got burned. Checked the voltage at idle, 14.3. A little high, but usable. Rev'ed the engine to 3500rpm...16.7 volts..!
All I can say is, I guess it coulda been worse.

At just over 18,000 miles, I guess I need another expensive regulator..!
Hmm, 1. front disc needs replacing, 2. right side body cracked at upper body to frame mount, 3. regulator bad, 4. battery trash. Not a good average for only 18,000 miles.

Hint...watch your magneto (generator/alternator, whatever you want to call it) output..!

Wow...I forgot just how nice headlights CAN be.
Having to drive my little XB12, with HID lights, is "really" nice. Lights everything very nicely. No horse power, but it handles great..!

Don't know if any lead-acid battery will fit the small space and have enough power.
I've thought about it but with the voltage as high as it probably was at a higher rpm, don't know if any battery would take the abuse for very long..!

I asked about it because I do not find analogues such batteries on Shorai catalog. This battery is only suitable in the EBR and is 1,5 times more expensive than similar LiFePO4 batteries. I do not want to think that because of its uniqueness...
Given the frequent problems (and still does not eliminate) with the Shorai batteries, I think about finding a replacement among ordinary gel batteries from other manufacturers (Yuasa, Varta etc.). In addition to the dimensions, I am concerned about the possibility of not to harm the on-board electronics EBR more powerful batteries (for example, 12Ah on Yuasa against 7Ah on Shorai from EBR).

I bought a smaller shorai- it is about 85% the volume the OEM on did

    IIRC is was this one-
    LFX18A1-BS12

I would suggest a look at Shorai's web site and do the measurement on the OEM vs this one.

    Works like a champ!

    $180 vs $305 for OEM

Slightly less CCA- but you would never know it by bike operation

Just added a couple pieces of the foam that comes with it, yeah?
I'm also curious to see how it would crank in colder months.

Where did you get your prices..?

The original cost is $209 and change.
It's currently on sale for $159. How do I know...I just bought one.

Modification "A7" is put only on the EBR. I do not know, how it differents from "A6", for example...

    http://www.shoraidirect.com/en/p102-...ty-case-type-6

    41% of the actual price.
"A7" is not even in Shorai catalog.
