Sorry for any hijacking on the Ebay RS carcass, but I lose a little reason around my RS.. I love this machine.

I'm too old for road racing but I love to go fast, so my RS is going to be a straight-liner.

Anyway, I have seen growing numbers while playing with exhausts.
144HP peak with OEM exhaust.
155HP with just headers(~2 ft. long, good drag pipes)
157HP with Dean Adams race pipe(Dan let me use his for this bout)

I will have a pipe from Kevin Drum when I go to Texas Mile next month in Beeville.
Going to sea level should give me 20+HP so I expect higher trap speed.

Got thru registration and meetings today, I'm good for <165mph to start.
Hope to hit at least 150 by the end of the day Friday.
Also hoping to top out at 170-180mph by Sunday.

EEEEEE-Haaaa!!!!

Sweet! I read there is an air strip track in Ohio that is used like that too. I plan on doing that one day too.

Make sure you take that pipe with you to try it out if he'll let you. If not, let me know and I'll build another one just for you.

Thanks Dean, your pipe is very nice but Kevin Drum is putting some stuff together for me.
Loretta will get a boost for her 1190 conversion.
I got 157hp on your pipe but I haven't done any tuning yet. there are more ponies to be found I'm sure.

Not many entrants today so I got 8 runs in.
I'll try to upload pix...

That is a cool time slip. Is it broken down in 1/4 mile, half mile, and one mile increments? Are you running again today?

zac4mac,

Do I take your post that you installed Deans Exhaust without any tuning adjustments? I thought that was very bad for the engine. Maybe I misunderstood your post.

Yeah heading back out today... running a little late.
Yes, the speeds are for 1/4, 1/2 and 1 mile. Half-mile to slow down goes fast at 170..

Yes Dean's exhaust, no tuning(fuel/spark) changes yet, Tim sent me a fat starter map for open exhaust.
I should have my Drummer in time for Texas Mile end of next month.

Gotta run, more later.

Could have used the ebr full race map for their oval can, it would have done just fine with it. Dimensions & lengths are very similar, close enough that I doubt you'd see more than 1-2 hp on a dyno.

Last run of the meet I got 172.4.

Got a call from Kevin Drum this morning.
My exhaust should be here next week!!!

I plan to tune her here but for the trip to Texas, I'll just do a global "add fuel" and hope for the best.

How's this coming? Is your exhaust on?

I finally got a chance to get the muffler and bracket lined up and scribed.
Hope to get it sent to Kevin this week.

While that happens, I'm adapting am S2 fuel cell to my 1200RS Westwind so I can ride it.
The RS tank has a destroyed lining and needs to go to California for repair...

What happened to the lining?

zac4mac

Alcohol in the gas affected the lining, causing it to harden and flake off, leaving the fiberglas exposed.
Can't find anybody to do this so I'm going to unseal the bottom piece and re-seal from the inside.

I have updates from this year..

Went to both Colorado and Fall Texas miles, bested my fastest run in Colorado with a 178.4mph.
Texas air is thicker but for 30 hp gained, I lost 40hp from drag, best speed was 173.4.
Maybe I'll finally break 180 next year.

What does it take to take on such an endeavor?

I'm kind'a bored....

What about the Salt Flats? Could the SX earn a 150 MPH award?

Just wondering.

And bored.

Entry fee for the US Mile events is around $600.
My RS cost me a hair over $20k.
Race prep, supplies, fuel, hotel - around $400-500

Lots cheaper than 150mph in a 75mph zone.....

No plans for Bonneville, salt and magnesium don't play nice together.

Did you run in any events in 2017?

zac4mac

Ran the Colorado Mile last year.
Crept my top speed a little more - 179.7mph
Not sure if I can afford it this year, we'll see in a month.

Curious what you ended up doing for gearing, I did a high speed run a few weeks back on my RS and couldn't believe how hard it struggled to pull 5th and 6th gear up top. No idea what it's geared to do, my thought is that EBR should have spec'd a taller first gear with tighter ratios in between.

Well, I know an SX with a 44 tooth will hit the limiter in 6th at 169 and gets there pretty quickly. A 200/55 rear tire most likely would reach 170. 1st gear powerband of course is useless with a 44 and the front rises top of 2nd more often than not. It can come up top of 3rd too if conditions are right. I have more links / moved axle rearward as well. Great for around town riding though.

I'm going to try 43 and 42. But I don't get hung up on not having modern big four cylinder top speed because these are designed for cornering and acceleration and are the best in the world at doing so without computer help. I just really like that.
