View Full Version : Need recommendation for a tank protector

Did you put a tank protector on your SX? If it works and if you still like it, I'd appreciate a recommendation. You don't get a second try, so I want to get it right the first time. The area that needs protection is a bit wider than what is common on other bikes.

My "tank" (air box cover) is already showing signs of fogging in the paint on the rear vertical section.

I suspect that the sides of the cover need protection as well, maybe using a clear film?

All input is appreciated.

TechSpec Snakeskins.

Two things I like about 'em...They're really grippy, and they can be reused. Reused, as in after I get the thing painted this winter.

Yep, helped TechSpec develop the kit for the 1190s. Sent them my airbox for development, went through three or four revisions on the frame covers. Highly recommend this to anyone and everyone on all bikes!

Ken, I'm sure you've found a solution since this was originally posted, but just in case, here is a TechSpec kit on a Laguna Blue:

I like the frame and side of the airbox. Not really a fan of the center piece.

That's a different tank protector than the piece I helped design for them. Interesting.

It sure would be awesome if the TechSpec tank grips matched on both sides...

I just read a response elsewhere just last week that indicated that they do fit better now on the right side. I was a bit disappointed there as well, but they sure do grip super. As a bonus, the thick diamond shaped pattern allows air to pass between them and your leg, which resulted in a noticeably cooler ride on the legs.

Great to work with and awesome company! If you have any problems don't worry. The side emblem fell off when I first applied mine and they ended up sending me 4 extras !!! Great company & customer service !!!

From the pics I can't tell if we are talking about the actual tank/frame or the airbox, but here's what I did for my airbox. I wanted to protect the paint but not stand out.
