Dumb question about valve adjust

I've done the valve check on my Aprilia Tuono three times in 65,000 miles. To change the shims the cams have to come out. It looks like in the photos the shims can be removed without removing the cams. Am I correct? Do the rockers slid sideways?

From my understanding, the followers move out of the way allowing access to the shims without removing cams.

I will be doing mine in the next week or so...moving house and trying to make time for the bike.
