I've noticed a singing noise from my engine, or possibly a super fast chirping. The frequency changes with engine RPM. Any ideas what I should be looking for?

If it makes the noise while on the sidestand, I would try to locate where the noise is coming from using a stethescope or a long screwdriver pressed to the ear and touching various parts of the engine.

Drive chain has a tight spot. Loosen chain a little or replace. Does it happen with the clutch in & coasting.

While sitting in traffic I can hear it a little, it's a lot easier to hear when engine rpm is around 3k-4k. I make it a habit to not rev the engine on the sidestand.

It's not the chain whine. Chain whine changes with speed; this changes with engine rpm, regardless of speed.

Intake air noise.? Loose hardware on fairings or plastic and harmonics are just right to chrip at 4k. Check air filter maybe clogged and it is singing to you through a little air hole.??

Sounds normal to me. Sound like cam chain noise to me. Check chain adjusters.

I probably just didn't notice it before, then.

My air filter was dirty af, though.

Started engine with airbox cover off, still made whirring noise. Probably cam chains as Kid Thunder pointed out.

I live out in the country, I went for a short blast without my brain bucket on, and wow all kinds of noises you dont hear when wearing the bucket.

You're not using hotcam valve shims are you? Could be your engine singing the blues from using those faulty shims.

My motor will surely blow up now for making such a comment.
