I got my EBR out with the wind screen last weekend, and i will say it does help. it cuts the wind all the way up to my helmet jaw line. i am 5 10" for reference. i went out for about an hour, ran it all the way up to 120 to see if the screen would rip off and make me crash... it didnt lol.. in the tuck it is way nicer, alot better. for long rides or someone that want a more sport bike wind jamming feel this will work well for you.

the board member who is selling these is "86bgn" shipped fast and was priced well.

Yes I am, but the speedo calibration is stock. I get 1-2-3-4-4-5. Its the same with the 43 and 44 tooth rear sprocket. When I sent the stock ECM and Dash to EBR the tech said he couldn't re-calibrate the speedo at that time "because of EPA emission testing".

FYI the mythical "Black Lightning" was to have a 44t rear sprocket.

I am using the 43t and Deans tune and I getting 1-2-3-4-5-6 , with stock dash and the same with upgraded dash. looks like the answer is in the tune, ask Dean about that.

Contact Tim at Intelligent Design Solutions, the manufacturer of the ECM, and they can rework the values assigned to the gear indicator. If you have the programmable ECM you can change the values yourself to make the dash's gear indicator read correctly.

I'm still deciding whether to get the APH exhaust. If I do, then I'll buy the Programmable ECM from Tim at the same time and do all that at once. It's really not annoying. I never used the indicator before anyway, I know what 10,900RPM sounds like.:bannana:

Spend the little extra for the race merge collector from APH. I have both, and it was my request that he make the race style merge further back and at a better angle (offering better flow than the standard off the shelf type merge collector parts). It does improve flow better and is sized to match the headers fairly well, with no noticeable reversion within the exhaust system. You will be happy with it, the tune, and race ecm for sure.

I took all 3 of them off, and my exhaust tips too, scuffed with 3M pad, and painted with Rustolium "Ultra" High Heat paint. The Ultra is glossy and the regular High Heat paint is flat. I did it a few months ago and the glossy finish is holding.
On the radiator trim, I used Ace Hardware Satin Black paint, it was real close to the rest of the black plastic trim.

Mine did the same thing. I unbolted the latch from the latch bracket, put in three 1/4" flat washers, under each bolt (2), to space it down more, therefore tightening the rear seat. Two washers may do it, mine is snug.

Gdisaac07, the quickest and usually cheapest way to get the bike to you is to borrow or rent a pickup truck and drive it back in the bed. Yeah I have a trailer and the PitBull trailer restraint, but it'd be a pain to do it. That being said, I might just bite the bullet, and maybe haul some other people's crap on the way to offset the cost (of the new bike, trailer, restraint system, gas, and tolls holy****ispentsomuchmoneywhy)

I'm putting a list together of how I plan to modify the bike once I get my mittens on it:

43T rear sprocket
Dean Adams round can exhaust
Dean Adams exhaust tip finishers
IDS programmable ECU
motogadget bar end blinkers (transplants from my scg)
CRG lanesplitter bar end mirrors (also transplants)
Phone and GoPro mounts in lollipop mirror holes
Twisted Designs tail tidy
TRex Racing complement of sliders
Wired in USB charge ports
Radiator and oil cooler guards
Kick stand pad
Ohlins Damper
Rizoma front LED turn signals
BUELLtooth quickshifter

Anything else I'm missing from this list?

What should the swing arm be torqued at ?

If its the same as the 1125, its

Install the pivot shaft with an AXLE WRENCH (Part No. B46279) (a hex tool also found in the owners tool kit). Tighten to 60-62 Nm (44-46 ft-Ibs).

I might consider the race clutch, and I already have some custom ear plugs. Never been a fan of shorty levers though.

Interesting. I'll have to do some research when I get my service manual.

On another note, does anyone happen to know the size of the front forks? Are they 43mm?

EBRRider

With a QS you will only be using the level half as much.

yes, 43mm, by doing power mods challenges the clamping of a stock clutch, mine only lasted 3K, put in a Barnett Carbon fiber, with Race springs, now it hooks up great.

Can you link me the clutch pack that you installed? Also, the springs? How does that affect clutch lever feel?

What did you mean earlier by "denoid"? I'm assuming removal of a solenoid, but I'm not clear on which one.

Agree 100%. Just because I don't like the concept, doesn't mean it isn't 100% safe or there's not benefit to be had, it's just not for me. Everyone else may love it and I'm the only one that doesn't, and that's totally cool; I won't knock the product or anyone who has one. Same goes for any modification that isn't proven to be detrimental to rider or machine.

I know most Buell/EBR guys are of similar mindset, and that's awesome cause I haven't encountered that in any other motorsport I've been a part of.

The lights should make me a bit more visible as well, at 5:30am.

They're cheap, but I need something ASAP. Will change them out later for another set I have my eyes on; blinker and running lights, I'll put the blinkers on a relay to act as hazards for splitting lanes.

Kinda how it's wired from the accessory plug:
https://i.imgur.com/ZZvQGTEm.jpg
I found the only place to mount the supplied switch was under the clutch reservoir at an angle. Weird to get to, but I don't care.

As delivered, my switch didn't work. I popped the toggle out with a small flathead screwdriver and found the contact plate inside to be offset from how it was supposed to be. Put it in the correct orientation, snapped the toggle back in, works like a charm. There were absolutely ZERO instructions, but it's pretty self-explanatory. Brackets A go with guard A, B with B. The wires are not marked + or -, so I just stuck the wires into the acc. plug until the lights came on to figure out which was which.

First impressions; straight forward install, no special tools require keeps it easy, best bard end hardware I've ever used, bright as all hell, sturdy ... I would 100% buy again.

Yes indeed. Thanks! 372 when I picked it up. A buddy and I drove from Wichita KS to Big Bend WI and back in one shot. Starting at 1 AM Saturday, Arriving in Big Bend at 12 PM and we were back in Wichita by 1 AM Sunday. I rode it around a bit tonight, And did a few things to it I'll post pics tomorrow. I feel pretty lucky to own one of these. All I've owned are I-4 machines which I love. I've said for years the only American bike I'd own was an EBR. And now I do. I can't wait to turn this beast loose.

Love that grey. Congrats! How's all that torque in the snow??:nut:

FYI, Make sure the ECM you borrowed' is one for "tips" or "secondary delete". More so than most bikes, it is very important the ECM matches your mods.
These are sensitive to changes and don't adjust much by themselves. There is power to be found, but you are close to the edge already.

Thanks for the pointer! My friend is a EBR Nut with an SX. He had ran this ECU in the same configuration (tips) I have until he got an APH dual port exhaust and switched... so the ECU was just sitting on a shelf. I'll probably go the route of APH at some point.

I rode it for the first time. Wow. I've got some more work to do on the bike before I'm satisfied with it, and I'll share the whole process then, but as of right now I'm so over the moon with this bike.

I I've got some more work to do on the bike before I'm satisfied with it,

Well... It IS a motorcycle after all:astrosmiley:

The most common mods would be:
Change the rear sprocket to 43 tooth (JD sprockets for steel ones and theres aluminum from Vortex) since they are so long legged. Its a shockingly cheap and dramatic mod.
Add a quick shifter. You only need the switch as the EBR upgrade will enable the function.
De-noid the airbox (1k ohm resistor in the plug will stop the CEL from activating.
Modify the exhaust to either eliminate the resonator and add tips, or a whole new system from APH or Keda. Be SURE to get a matching ECM from Dean at Keda or Tim at IDS. These don't self-adjust enough to like the mods without tuning.
Since it an early bike (2014 right?) Send your dash and ECM to EBR for the latest updates.
Oil change at 600 miles
There are a couple other little things if you wish like an easy clutch pull kit (I wouldn't), a rear shock coil change from yellow to red (lighter rate by 50lbs(?)) a softer seat at less angle (St1tch) but this thing is a serious performance bike and will never fail to put a smile on your face. Post pics!

I've actually been wrenching on it quite a bit so far. I intend it to be a track/street monster. It's a 2017 SX in white. Here's what I've already done for it:

Installed 44 tooth JD sprocket
Installed motogadget m-blaze disc bar end blinkers
Installed CRG lanesplitter bar end mirrors
Installed New Rage Cycles Rage 360 turn signals, with resistors
Installed Motion Pro Rev2.1 Throttle
Moved all stock switchgear/starter on the bars, including drilling new holes
Installed Öhlins steering damper
Removed solenoid
Installed Dean Adams Designs round can exhaust
Installed IDS programmable ECU
Installed Twisted Designs fender eliminator
Installed Shorai battery cable
Removed pillion peg assembly
Removed rear chain guard
Installed Kriega Drypack Straps to tail
Installed R&G Racing Kickstand Pad
Techspec tank pad set

I have a bunch of other parts that I have in the garage that I intend to install as well:

T-Rex Racing full slider pack
BUELLtooth GP shift Quickshifter
USB hub
1125 race clutch springs
RS carbon fiber belly pan (requires some modification and fabrication)
RX brake cooling scoop
Öhlins RS rear shock
Öhlins NIX30 front fork cartridge kit

In order to make it a track/street machine, I plan to be able to quick swap the handle bar for some clip ons. I'm going to be purchasing:

Woodcraft clip ons
Woodcraft bar ends
Woodcraft lever guards
Extra Woodcraft bars
Extra Motion Pro Rev2.1 throttle tube
Extra Motion Pro Rev2.1 throttle cam
OEM EBR grips

I'm really looking forward to how this bike will be when it's all done. I've been taking pictures along the way, and I'll put up a full build album when I'm done.

That's quite a list!
You are right, I forgot to mention the Ohlins adjustable damper.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4657/26269540368_ebaf41274d_c.jpg
The stock one is valved much to light for me:( I really hated the OE grips though. I thought they were pencil thin and slick. Hard to battle that stiff throttle spring, especially with the motion pro throttle cam! I have Hulk hands so a set of softer 'Fat Grips' are perfect for me.

FYI, the clip-ons won't fit with the stock SX ignition, so you'll need an RX upper triple.

I like the OE grips. I had the motogadget soft grips on my XB and wasn't a fan. I find the OE grips to be the right size for me at this point. If I find them too slippery on the track, I also have the Motion Pro grips in the box 'o parts, so I can always throw those on.

Hmmmm interesting RE: the ignition. I don't want to lose the ability to put the handlebar back on, so I might have to relocate the ignition to a place that allows me to shoehorn the clip on bracket into the correct place. I know it's just three bolts fastening the ignition (though two are break-off fasteners), so maybe a 1-inch drop plate will allow me to do what I want to do.

It also looks like it's going to take some doing to get the RS rear shock installed. The brake line runs right through where the suspension side can would be. And the Showa Big Piston Forks are very oddly assembled, so I'm probably going to have to create an adapter plate for the bottom of the tube to fit the Öhlins parts in.

Thats easy with the ignition (longer bolts/spacers) as long as you don't mind losing the steering lock.

I'm in the middle of this can of worms right now putting Hot Bodies RX fairings on my SX. I think I should have just got a salvage RX for the track:kickballs:

Why would I lose steering lock if I drop the ignition one inch down?

Yeah I'm struggling with that now, too. But I've come too far, and the S/O would murder me if I bought another bike.

Theres a little peg that comes out of a hole in the end of the lock cylinder, into a hole in the steering neck, to physically stop the forks from turning. So If you move the lock cylinder down, out, or anything... that peg won't line up anymore.

I believe a RX upper triple and RX lock cylinder would still keep that functional (as the frames are the same), but then you'd have to deal with moving the I.C. out of the way of the key.

Edit: It's only murder... worth it:deadly:

Hmmmm. I haven't taken a good, hard look at the anatomy of the cylinder. But I suppose that any drop plate could have an appropriately sized protuberance that takes the place of the existing steering lock on the ignition cylinder.

If I add the RX upper triple and lock cylinder, then a couple things happen.

I can't use the stock SX display shroud
I can no longer do the handlebar quickswap

And unfortunately, that violates the main tenants of my goals. So I'm gonna have to do some engineering to make sure that everything works correctly with the SX triple.

You can't buy more bikes if you're dead!

I found the answer and it's incredibly simple. Eliminate the ignition switch completely.

When I go to the track, I'll just install that bypass and leave the keys in the trailer.

Yeah I'm going to have to get down to that part of the assembly every time I go on track anyways so I can disconnect the headlight and turn signals. What's an extra 7 bolts among friends?

Nah, but I do live in MA so it's the kind of situation where if I get intoxicated enough and on their website, a day and a half later they deliver the whole catalog of parts to me.

Still wainting on spools and tires. Then it will be a quick shifter and adjustable damper

Öhlins fork oil
Labor to remove/machine/replace cartridges
Labor to completely rebuild Öhlins 1190RS rear shock

Today was the day of Öhlins.

1928

My guy at Seacoast Sport Cycle in Derry, NH called me up yesterday to tell me that the forks were complete, so I went up there this morning to get them.

1929

This is the top of the left fork, which has compression. The right leg has rebound.

1930

The new fork has a slightly longer stroke. This necessitates that the fork sticks out of the top of the triple a little bit so that the change in ride height is compensated for. I measured the distance that the stock fork sticks out of the top triple as ~9mm. Because of the 10mm increase in stroke, the forks are now sticking out 20mm.

1931

They gave me a neat sticker too.

1932

As an aside, I also got the correct CRG RC2 lever for the brake on, to match the one I have on the clutch. I'll put it in the aftermarket mod page.

Seacoast did a lot of work to make this happen for me, and I really have to thank them. They're offering a package to anyone with an EBR 1190SX or RX to do the forks. If you can ship your forks to Seacoast, they'll re-cartridge them with the Öhlins NIX30 kit, including all parts and labor, for $1,750 + shipping back. No tax. They're a complete joy to work with, and upon receiving the cartridge, the turnaround on the work that they did for me was 48 hours.

Here is their contact information. Ask for Charlie and tell him George sent you:

Today was the second day of Öhlins: back end edition.

1933

I installed the brand new, but immediately rebuilt (also by Seacoast) Öhlins BU-8881 shock. It's a drop-in part, which debuted on the 1125 and was then reused for the 1190RS. That being said, it's a pain in the ass to get the stock shock out, and it's even harder to get the top bolt out (and find the nut when you drop it *ahem*)

1934

For anyone who plans to add this shock to your bike, I'd recommend disassembling the entire tail. I think it would have been faster and less frustrating to do it that way. By leaving the tail on, I had to become a contortionist to remove the nut attached to the top bolt, had to remove the ECU and battery to get the stock reservoir out, and I had still haven't able to place the preload adjuster exactly where I want it (between the frame and the plastic seat pan). Finally, it was really tricky to get the top bolt holes lined up when installing the new shock. Honestly, it took a lot of force, time, and frustration to get it all together.

1935

Instead, I placed it on the outside of the rear subframe. I might just leave it there, but get a larger OD washer to ensure that it's not going to become detached mid-ride. I also think I'm going to add some Loctite 242 to the bolt to ensure it doesn't come loose.

I'll hopefully get to ride it after Easter and get both front and rear ends dialed in. Super excited!

rb21
03-25-2018, 09:23 PM
I just installed my shock this weekend as well. In order to get the preload adjuster mounting bracket on the inside of the subframe i decided to remove the bracket the runs underneath the battery and grind off the end by the approximate width of the bracket. After that it all bolted right up.

The frame attachment point for the shock is very, very tight. It took a lot of force to remove the stock shock, plus the cabling made removing the remote reservoir difficult. I had to pull hard to get the existing shock out, and use some serious persuasion to get the Öhlins one in.

Here's the link to the 1190RS Service Manual. The suspension setup to get the rear shock close is on page 102. Did the front cartridges come with a setup guide for the bike?

I wonder if they'd sell the parts as a kit instead of the ship forks back and forth. I've been a mechanic for my entire adult life, not much scares me working on stuff. I've got most of the tools required and don't mind buying whatever else I need to make a job like that one happen.

I spoke with Charles at Seacoast. He's got something awesome for you.

He's willing to provide you the modified, drop-in kits for $1,215 + shipping. However, that will not include springs or oil. Furthermore, the forks require specialized tools to install, plus some experience (his exact warning). Take that as you may!

So we need to know what spring rate is available based on rider weight, as well as oil. I assume he would supply Ohlins springs and oil at an additional cost?

I'm certain he could. He chose the spring rate for me and we'll try it out, then swap springs if it's just not working for me. The weather should be 60 degrees on Saturday, so that's when I'm going to ride it up to him and find out.

I'd give him a call tomorrow if you get a chance. He's super helpful and knowledgable, far far more than I am.

Do you or anyone happen to know why / how the stroke is increased? Is the inside tube extension stop adjustable?

gdisaac07
03-29-2018, 09:12 AM
This is what I believe is the case, but don't take it for gospel as I was not hands-on with this install.

The stock BPF cartridge has a limitation on the extension. It's not a hard stop on the fork tube. The Öhlins kit that we have to use (which is adapted from another bike) has a longer stock stroke, which Seacoast had to shorten to make work (but still extends the stroke vs the stock EBR BPF fork).

I rode about 150 miles in the last couple days. On the way up to NH, the bike was kind of soft. It was very comfortable (except for my footpeg position, which I changed once I got to Seacoast), but not really that great. After spending a couple hours at Seacoast, everything changed. The rear end is enormously communicative. I could feel every bump of the road, but it wasn't harsh, just a gentle reminder.

The front end is another story. The spring rate we originally chose is a bit too soft, so we need to go up one or two spring rates (I'm 5'11", 220 with gear on). I'm also going to put on the clip ons before I go up next so we can get a better idea of what the final spring rate should be so it can be used as a track/street bike. That being said, even with the wrong spring, the front end was much better than with the BPF. The bike now is a bit more ready to tip into a turn. It requires more concentration now, but it's more compliant mid-turn.

I'll give another report post-spring change.

Another couple things - the BUELLtooth quickshifter is unbelievable. However, purchase a longer screw as the one provided does not reach the end of the threads on the female end of the hole.

Saturday, I swapped the stock handlebar over to clipons. This wasn't an easy transition. Things that you have to change include:

Removal of left switchgear entirely
Wiring and installation of Accossato 2 button right switchgear
Ignition delete
Installation of Woodcraft ignition bypass
Purchase and installation of second MotionPro race cam, throttle tube, and grip
Purchase and installation of Woodcraft handlebar brake reservoir bracket
Complete disassembly/reassembly of the dash
Removal of turn signals

I also removed the plate, installed the 1125 race clutch springs, and had the cartridges modified so that they were a little bit more in line with the weight the bike is putting on the front.

Here she is!

Super cool as I'm looking to do the same (but add the RX race plastics). I know the ignition lock cylinder is totally in the way, but why the switch gear/throttle tube change?
I wonder if 1125CR clubmans would be an easy option? I used to have an extra set and sold them for $50:(

I put the MotionPro Rev 2.1 throttle system in the bike so I can change the cams at will. I wanted to be able to customize how the bike was responding to my inputs.

The switch gear has a nipple on it that requires drilling into the bar. I didn't want to add a potential weak point for the bar, so I instead chose to wire a new one that doesn't have that problem. It's a pretty neat part, too, in that it replaces the front side of the clamp for the brake lever mount. I then purchased a Woodcraft brake reservoir mounting kit that takes care of the reservoir and it's much cleaner/stronger now.

Actually those trim panels are bead blasted and clear anodized aluminum. Mine are being powdercoated gloss black. Getting them off the plastic is a bitch, but worth it.

How exactly do you get the aluminum SX panels off the side fairing?

They are on with Double sided tape and 2 lower screws , You gotta get your finger under and pull, yes it hurts your finger tips.
