It looks like I may FINALLY be able to buy an EBR in about a month, and there are quite a few new ones still for sale. A warranty is of little value since I'm located ~600 miles from the closest dealer. OTOH, there isn't much of a price difference in a left-over 2014 and a just-built 2017.

I was trying to think of the changes made in the bikes over the production years, and this is what I came up with:

2014- first year for SX and RX
2015- more-durable instrument display; reduced-pull clutch introduced (from factory mid-year; but free dealer retrofit for earlier models)
2016- 2-piece tail section to eliminate cracking; improved instrument display
2017- last year of production; no changes

Does that seem accurate? Any corrections would be appreciated.

I have a 2015 SX, and it came with the two piece tail section.

In regards to the 2 piece tail design, I wonder if that was introduced mid-end 2015. I've seen plenty of 2015s with the original one piece design.

On Cycletrader right now there are 3 red 1190SX bikes with the older 1 piece design.

Good catch. Those EBR's are by far the closest available EBRs to me (~150 miles away). Somebody (Dean Adams?) posted close ups of the 2-piece tail when it was introduced. It looks like a 1-piece tail could be modified fairly easily if you did it before it cracked.

I'm still leaning towards getting a 2016 or 2017 so that the bike incorporates as many updates as possible.

My bike is gray- which I believe was a new color for that year. Maybe these were produced after the redesign- red parts could have been leftover from 14?

My dash had the latest programming as well.

I have a 2015 sx, it's super early production number 20. It came with the two piece tail.

It seems like (so far) the 2015 two piece tails were on the new colors for that year - midnight black and the grey.

I'm looking at a red left over 2015. Any way to tell if it has the reduced effort clutch pull? Can I tell if the dash update has been done? If it has not, can I still send it somewhere to get it done?

Just email Tech@EBR.com and ask if they are still accepting dashes for updates.

I talked to Mike in parts last week and he said they are still accepting the dash panels for updates. You fill out a form and pay shipping.
