View Full Version : An easy fix for the sticking key in the lock for seat latch...

The key for the seat latch gets stuck in the lock on some bikes. When it does this to remove the key it has to be turned hard counterclockwise and pulled out. What is happening is there is an L shaped bracket that is slightly bent and you are bending it back far enough for the tumblers in the lock mechanism to release the key.

The permanent fix is to remove the seat, rear tail section plastics, and the black plastic section that holds the lock and latch assembly. The L shaped bracket needs to be bent back to a 90° angle, or slightly more for springing purposes. This puts a proper gap between the lock mechanism and the cable sheath. I also trimmed 1/8" off from the front of the cable sheath with a razor blade to ensure there is always going to be enough room for the cable to operate properly.

Yep....thanks Buell-fan. That's what I did to mine, now the key and latch work perfectly.
