This thread is to track progress on my 1190RX VIN #003.

History:
In October 2013, EBR unveils the 1190RX to the world using 4 bikes at their booth (1 yellow, 1 black, and two red (one on the ground with the others and one suspended in the air)). The yellow RX was VIN #003 - mine. In addition, yellow RX #006 was at the AMSOIL booth advertising a giveaway at the same show. In addition to being media bikes for shows and photography models for advertisements and magazines, these bikes were also used as R&D before production was to begin in December 2013 for completion in January 2014.

There are some differences between #003 and the rest of regular production 1190RXs. I will post pictures and describe differences as I have time throughout the week.

Sadly, one thing I was looking forward to was the different rear shock/spring combo as shown on the above pics. Appears to have been the rear suspension from the XBRR, but sometime between 10/2013 and today, the rear setup was replaced with the standard production rear sock/spring combo. I may later try to find that original shock combo to return to what the bike had originally, but at least for now, #003 has the same as everyone else.

Fortunately, the front forks are the same as shown in 2013, and are a different Showa BPF. How different I cannot say, but it is easy to identify by looking at the fork caps (blue) vs regular production (black). On the 1190RX, I have only seen these on the pre-production bikes. They may have also come from the XBRR, but I don't have any information on that yet.

Delivery:
Arrived via Keyboard Motorcycle Shipping today. Shippers were very prompt and very professional. Couldn't have been happier with the delivery.

Modifications:
Within about 10 minutes of delivery, I swapped in the Twisted Designs undertail license plate bracket, swapped the shorter rear turn signals to the front, added Sandro axle sliders, and pitbull longer spools.

It's really small. Not sure what that means (if anything).

Same on your SX? or is that one larger. Noticed that they changed the castings somewhere along the lines. Curious about it.

No, the "EBR" on the SX is much bigger.

Today's difference - the gas cap. Mine has a rectangular section etched out with EBR on it. For whatever reason, they decided to make the regular production bikes without engraving on the gas caps but then brought it back in the SX.

I put some miles on it, and something in the front brake is pulsating. It's either a brake disc that could be warped or something to do with the pads. I would have thought the front wheel needed to be balanced from the amount of shake at 45ish mph, but even moving it in the garage not running, I can hear/feel the front brake rubbing.

I want to email Tech, but I don't know if they can diagnose much from a distance. Might have to take it to a shop in Daytona (previous EBR dealer that still works on them). If I do that, I have to decide whether to try riding it or getting a trailer. I really want to start taking it out on big rides, but I'm a little worried about doing damage or it being unstable at speed.

Put the bike up on the front end stand and rotate the tire. You can use the caliper slot as a guide to visually see if the rotor is warped due to the lugs on the rim or the mounting hardware. Hopefully it can be easily fixed by swapping around the mounting hardware. Being that it is a new bike the rotor shouldn't be warped yet.

Some of the early rotors had problems with the machining and had bad pulsing problems. You'd know it by the vertical lines showing on the rotor.

I imagine these are the vertical lines you're talking about. Well crap, this isn't going to be cheap.

I'll try to get better pics tomorrow, but there are little vertical lines on the rotor. Kind of faint in this pic, but they're there.

I also mounted some T-Rex frame sliders with yellow writing. As advertised, they read "RX1190". I had them reverse the order of the writing to read "1190RX". I also had a complimentary set made with blue writing for my 1190SX.

Got rid of the stock mirrors and turn signals up front. Went with mirrors from the 1125R/1190RS. Have to drill a hole at the mirror mount for the wiring to pass through and had to change out one of the bullet connections per side (from female to male).

Got the EBR taller smoked windscreen. It's been raining so I haven't had a chance to try it out on the road yet, but it looks good sitting still.

Luimoto rear seat cover installed and very happy with the result. It's a little tougher to latch, but that might be just breaking in the leather - some of it wraps around the underneath and gets stapled, so it probably just needs to get squished a bit and it will probably go on and off smoother as time goes on.

Next step will probably be coming up with a design for the rider's seat from Luimoto and perhaps order a matching rear strap to make it blend in with the seat.

Carbon fiber parts have started arriving, so they will probably get installed this weekend some time.

Wow, it's been awhile since I updated this thread! Haven't done a lot in the last 6 months, but to bring you up to speed...

Swapped exhaust from Dean Adams round to Dean Adams oval. The newer tip design on the oval clears the belly pan much better.

Picked up the Shorai battery tender and installed the pigtail to the battery of the bike. I ran the charging pigtail under the passenger seat lock terminating under the passenger seat. This way the wire and pigtail are out of the elements, yet still very easy to get to any time I need it.

and plugged in the factory Buell accessory socket (from a Buell Ulysses). It fits the factory connector, but the socket end is too big to fit cleanly on the RX...

So I cut the socket off and swapped in a Powerlet low profile socket. It is smaller both in terms of depth and diameter, which fits much better for a clean install...

The Powerlet socket does require a different charge cable for your accessories, but it makes a much more positive connection. On my SX with just the regular Buell Ulysses socket, my GPS cable kept working its way out of the socket with vibration from the handlebars. Although I had to spend a little extra on cables, it is well worth the extra cost.

Lastly, I sent off my dash to EBR to be updated and got that installed.

New 45 tooth sprocket is on order from Vortex, so that install will be the next thing on my list.

Next big project for the RX will be riding it 520 miles from my home in north Florida up to the Tennessee mountains to visit some family (weather permitting, of course). They live an hour and a half away from The Tail of the Dragon, so I will most likely do a day trip there, and could quite possibly ride an extra 700 miles to visit East Troy, WI for Homecoming. Just going to play it by ear and see how much my body can handle.

I already have an OGIO saddlebag setup that I've used on my SX and a Mach 5 hard shell backpack, but I'm also contemplating a tail bag for extra storage off my back. I'm not going to run the tank bag on the RX to leave room for me to tuck under the windscreen.

The bike ran perfectly (other than the front brake rotor that needs to be replaced, but that was a known issue and will be fixed soon). I put on about 2500 miles in four days of riding and I can't complain at all - I was just about as comfortable as I would have been if I took my car that far.

While I was in Wisconsin, I picked up a few goodies for the bikes. Remember that unique rear shock I mentioned the pre-production bikes having? Well all of them were swapped out to the regular production rear shock when production began, but I found the original Showa shock at EBR and bought it during the liquidation sale. It will soon go back on the bike. I could have bought a Showa race shock or an Ohlins, but for this particular bike, this seems like the correct shock to have.
