Spring and frame contact!

Just curious how many people are having an issue with the rear shock spring rubbing subframe? I was working on putting case covers on and saw where spring finish is rubbed off and a groove has worn into subframe. Apparently when a passenger is on back the spring compresses to the point it actually rubs the frame. I would like to know if anyone else is having this issue or if I just happen to maybe have a manufacturing issue w mine? I would think frame to suspension contact would lead to a safety recall.

I got the same problem, my spring is rusted on the spots missing paint.

All of them. There's about .050" clearance at the spring to subframe rub point, as the spring compresses, it grows in diameter and then rubs. It was pointed out back in June 2014, we had 3 of them at the factory and all of them were like it. Looked at a couple more inside, they were brand new and had done it. A fix was supposedly in the works but never materialized. Spacing the subframe rail out is the only real way to stop it from rubbing.

The OEM shock on these bikes begs to be replaced with something that doesn't so robustly and thoroughly suck. I moved the Penske over from my 1125r and never looked back.

Looks like it's an(other) last minute change that is responsible for this issue.

Anyone else ever notice that all of the initial marketing shots for the 1190RX show a different spring configuration on the rear shock?

I - for one - would like to know more info regarding the change in rear shock. Why was it changed? Is the pre-production configuration available (from another bike perhaps)? Any drawbacks to the pre-production style?

At times it sure sucks being an engineer in a world where everyone just wants to bitch and complain about a situation rather than understand why it is what it is. <== Please be aware that this is not in reference to this thread specifically, just life in general and quite frequently motorcycle enthusiast forums.

I just bought the yellow pre-production bike, so when it gets delivered I'll take a look at it and see if I can help identify the original rear shock/spring combination.

Update:
Well it got delivered today, and it no longer has the original rear shock/spring combo it had when they were unveiled. I am running the same rear suspension as all the other production bikes. Sorry I can't be of any help.
